Disclaimer: Before I write this post I want to clarify that I was not sponsored by the store to post this blog and so will not receive any royalties for promoting their food.
In today’s post I am sharing some meal ideas that I got from shopping in Sainsbury’s as they do a good range of meals for you and your family that are no hassle and saves you so much time in cooking.
These meals are lovely and I know we shouldn’t rely on readymade meals, but as I am now living back with my mum and tend to eat when my son eats, I just want something quick simple.
I have made a Chow mein from scratch in the passed but when it is just one eating it, then I don’t want to buy a whole stir fry set because I don’t really want to be eating it all week long.
They do some nice meals that you can give your kids aswell, like Cottage Pies, Spaghetti Bolognese, Sausage and Mash, and you can even divide a meal between you and your child. Example I bought fish and chips to have in the week, and there was enough chips for two of us, so what I did, is cooked at the same time some fish fingers for my son that we already had in the freezer and we both shared the chips, from the fish and chips ready meal.

This fish and chips meal wasn’t great and does not beat proper fish ‘n’ chips you get from a fish ‘n’ chips shop, so will probably get two fish fillets next time, as I can eat one and freeze the other and use the chips I had in the freezer. However it was good to try out, but won’t be buying again.
Returning to the Chow Mein, if you have more than one child, then it can work out to be cheaper to buy the stir fry mix and sauce set, rather than the readymade meal.
All you need to buy is:
- Diced meat if you wish to have meat in the stirfry
- Stir fry mix
- Egg Noodles
- Chow mein sauce
You can buy a packet of spring rolls and Seasame toasts, if you don’t wish to make these and a packet of Prawn crackers.

To make the Stir fry:
- Add a teaspoon of oil to a frying pan or Wok
- Cook off the diced meat until it is brown in colour, and once all the meat is cooked on the outside, take it out and put into a dish and place to one side
- Put in your Stir fry mix into the same pan or wok, and make sure you have it on a high heat, because stirfry’s cook better when you do, but stir in between so no ingredients stick to the pan or wok
- Once the stir fry mix has welted down, Put in your noodles
- return the meat back into the pan or wok
- Add your sauce, and once all mixed in and the meat is thoroughly cooked, then it is ready to be served.
Sainsbury’s do have a recipe page if you want check this out for more options, but if it is just a meal for one or two of you, then you might be better off getting the meal deals they have.
I do write a list when I go shopping, but the last two times I put it on my phone and it hadn’t saved it and my last shop I wrote a list and forgot to pick it up.
Anyway, I would always recommend writing a list and writing down going on the stores website first, to check the prices of each item and making a budget on each item you want to buy aswell the whole weekly shopping amount. Always do the calculation when you see a deal as sometimes what looks like a good offer isn’t and you can get more for your money if you look through each option, or check every shelf and see the same item from another brand that works out to be cheaper than the deal they store is offering.
It is all about getting more but spending less.
So if you have any meal ideas and shopping advice then please share. All comments can be left below.
Many thanks for reading,
