So July is almost over, got another week and it has been scorching hot in the U.K. Now all the schools have broken up for the School Summer Holidays I know many will be packing now looking forward to some time in the sun or on their way. Here are some tips if you are off on your holidays:

Tip 1: Anxious Traveller

Pack with a plan. Re-check hotel and location. If you don’t want to take your entire contents of your home, check to see what is supplied in your accommodation and if there are any shops around, where you can buy something if you need it.

Tip 2: Need and want list

Get a notepad, and draw a line in the middle of a page going down, and on the left is the Need list and on the right is the Want list. List all the items you need first, such as confirmation of booking, flight details, passport and clothes for climates that are really hot or cold.

Want items, make up, dressing up clothes and toiletries etc. These are want items because if you forget these they aren’t going to stop you from getting onto a plane.

holiday-destinations-india

Tip 3: Pack in easy access order and of what you need to change into wants you get to destination. Going first item you will wear to the last item.

Pack underwear first, spare shoes or sandals, swimming gear and then your clothes. Leaving night-clothes on top, especially if you are flying in the afternoon for example and won’t arrive at your holiday destination until the evening. If it is a morning flight, put the clothes for the beach or items you are going to change into wants you get there as your last items to pack.

Tip 4: Pack Suitcase before your hand luggage.

Lay every piece of your Suitcase luggage out, and then pack as suggested in Tip 3. According to what you will be needing first to the last thing you will need.

Tip 5: Anxious going through the Departure Lounge.

It can be the daunting part of the airport as most people are just genially going on holiday, but we can still get anxious. As sometimes we will put a large bottle of water in our bag forgetting the rules about large bottles through security. If you are worried about toiletries and make up in your hand luggage then take travel size items and pack then in your suitcase.

Pack what you need for the flight. You can worry about your other items once you get there. Just pack a spare pair of underwear in your hand luggage should your suitcase get lost. Not the first time this has happened, and not the last.

Tip 6: If sitting still is not your thing when waiting to board a flight.

Then keep yourself busy, by looking around the shops or journal how you are feeling. Even when it is a day trip somewhere I still get anxious. I will observe the feelings and address them if I need to, and journal and for every negative thought, I will think of a positive one.

Tip 7: Always have a book on you or a magazine. I love to read a book or a magazine. I love reading the ones on the planes. You have paid a lot of money for the flight so it is right you enjoy it and take advantage of the in flight service.

If all they promised wasn’t provided and you are left disappointed do write and complain. It is important for them to receive feedback even when it is negative for their own business to continue and if they are good enough they will learn from your letter of complaint.

Tip 8: Nervous about flying

Then think of things that make you feel comfortable and not nervous. We can’t control the future, like we can;t control the past, we can only control how we are in the moment. Watch a comedy the night before or chill out music. Whatever gives you that peace in your mind and worry about it when it comes. Coming back to Tip 1, if you plan ahead this will help with your peace of mind.

Tip 9: Do  your research of the place you are staying and what is around. See what entertainment there is before you go, and if you have any worries speak to your travel agent, you have paid them the money for the holiday so they should be able to support you and help make sure you have as much of a good holiday as possible.

Tip 10: Once there if you need a couple of days to relax before any trips to tour the island or other country you have visited then do so. Go for a walk in the mornings and remember your suncream. It is important to have a good holiday but also important to protect your skin too.

So to everyone who are travelling off on their holidays have a good one and keep safe.

Revamping my wardrobe

last weekend after planning a few weekends before of organising and sorting out my wardrobe and the one in the guest bedroom, I finally got around to at least sort out my wardrobe. If I could have the Carrie Bradshaw Closet that Mr Big had, had build for her in the first movie of Sex And The City then I would probably live in there.

However at the moment I can only dream of that closet of Carrie Bradshaw’s and make the most of my own small built in closet.

Featured image

Not all my shoes are kept in the wardrobe as these are put in the shed if not suitable for the winter season, and the ones I am wearing at the moment are kept downstairs in the hallway, next to the front door (see picture) which will be changing also, but trying to make the most of the space, furniture and storage we already have. Being on a tight budget we have to make the most of what we already have.

Featured image

After receiving some items I bought from Amazon, such as my new Hanging bag organiser I hung this up and used this to put in all my running bottoms rolled up neatly, Summer Maxi dresses, cycling shorts, my lounge clothes and tops I use for running in.

This has made such a different to the space. I do have to go through some more clothes which are in a vacuum bag at the moment to decide what I still want to wear and what can be used and turned into soft furnishings and what can be donated.

The little bags, bum bags I have were put into my large tote bags and rucksacks, and look at the after picture. What a difference? There is still work to be done, but happy with this result so far.

Featured image

I would always recommend these type organisers that hang inside the door, as you don’t have to necessarily use these for shoes but storing belts, gloves, hats, tights, scarfs etc.

Next thing is sorting out the guest bedroom wardrobe.

See next post.

A Daydream Believer

The person I imagine myself to be is someone who has accomplished her dream, I switch from imagining myself as a successful football coach who has made it to the top, to being an entertainer who can sing, dance and make people laugh, and then there is that writer in me, that imagines my books that I am currently writing and ones I wish to write in the future becoming bestsellers. That is not what makes me want to write, I write because I can use the images and dreams I have into stories. A book is like a movie on paper and can take you from your current location to a different place in your mind. That is why the mind we have is so powerful and we should use it to be powerful ourselves. However when I wake up into the real world I can find it hard at times, as the real world can feel a lot harder to face than the imaginary me and life I see in my head. However through learning about myself doing things I never thought I would do has helped me see that with hard work and commitment you can accomplish your dreams. I remember someone saying to me “Oh you have to be someone special and different to be anything successful in life” but I think I am, and I think we all are. Everyone has a strengths and weaknesses, something they are good at, aswell as things they aren’t so good at, it is just finding out what makes you tick and what excites you, makes you get up in the morning, makes you laugh out loud and makes you want more of. I have always been one of those that when I become a fan of something or I find a new passion, that is all I can think about, so that is all I will read about to the point I know so much I could write a book about it myself. People used to ask me and find me weird because I could just sit or lay there and daydream all day, and sometimes it has been what has stopped me in the passed as I do have the tendency to over analyse something or a situation which has then lead me to talking myself out of not doing something or going somewhere, then I have regretted that because I have missed out on a great opportunity. However I have learned that I am in control of my mind, and the mind is a special organ that we have in our bodies and so why not use it to help me be creative and follow my dreams. I have learned that I am in control of my mind and in control of my own destiny and so yes I do daydream but I am a very proud day dreamer. It is what helps me create stories, blogs and now I have started publishing Vlogs as a way of communicating to people and helping others with issues I have had to deal with, such as helping those who have not felt good about themselves or felt like they haven’t accomplished anything and about me being bullied. I would like to continue to do this along with other future projects which will help others accomplish and talk about their issues, and help them achieve the things they would like to. So yes the real world is tough at times but it is how you make it, and seeing my son beaming smile in the morning is what excites me, makes me want to get up in the morning and yes I want more of, plus my husband, my home and my passion for writing too. Dreams are there to be fulfilled so go and chase them you be surprised as to what dreams can really come true. Many thanks for reading, Carrie X

A Happy New Year

I haven’t posted on my WordPress site for a while as I have a different website where I blog now http://www.carrieshomemadelife.com. However thought I would use Wordpress as it is a free service from this year to post various blogs on various subjects.

This year I have already got myself a new Part time job which is temporary but will help with my finances for a while, and the funny thing is since becoming a mum it isn’t like going to work instead it is like taking a break from parent hood,as much a I love it and doing something else for a bit for the weekend and 3 evenings a week.

I love blogging and writing, I also have a Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFNOjoaEHL2PSz8UfTZr0qw where I have been taking about Building Self-confidence, as it is something that I really have had to work on, as I have had issues with my body image and experience bullying which I have also talked about.

So he is to a new year, I have set out new goals, which I will write in a separate blog and looking forward to the rest of 2015.

Many thanks for reading,

My love for food

My love for food and I don’t mean stuffing my face, but from trying out new recipes has really expanded, therefore I am going to be posting my home cooking ideas and baking recipes on my new website where all the subjects I blog about will be posted from soon at www.carrieshomemadelife.com.

I will also be changing the organization of my kitchen which I will be posting about, and the products I have recently purchased. It’s amazing how even kitchenware with new manufacturing ideas have advanced with the new ceramic kitchenware available, and I will posting about the new ceramic wok I have bought, how good it is.

When I was young there were lots of food I did not like so at every meal I had were very basic, but meant that I didn’t take in all the good nutrition that a range of food offers such as calcium, iron and other vitamins and minerals.

Now I am a mum it is important that I maintain a good nutrtional diet as I would like my son also to like a whole range of food but at the same time have healthy nutrition in his daily meals. He is still on formula milk at the moment but in 3 months or so time it will be time for him to wean, and so I have cut down a lot on my sugar intake. I do like to bake but I don’t eat everything I bake as I do like to share the cakes and biscuits I make with other people. In any case one sugary thing isn’t gonna kill me as long as I do keep it within moderation.

The one thing I am very adamant about is I won’t be a mum who takes Henry to the sweet shop and buy him sweets for him everyday like I used to see lots of mums do after school would take their child to buy them sweets and it used to be literally everyday. I am not saying he won’t be allowed sweets, but it won’t be all the time; I want him to seen that they are a treat not something you need to have every single day. That will be the same when it comes to fizzy drinks, the amount of times I see a young child playing around with a coca cola bottle and when I see kids drinking fizzy drinks I can’t help but be dismayed.

It is amazing how your perspective on things do change as you get older, it has for me regarding food, I see it now learning more about food and what you can make, that it is ok to love your food it doesn’t always mean that your an overeater but you appreciate the food, the quality in the taste and appearance, it is still fine to splurge and pig out (again within moderation). I also see that cooking for me is a therapy and has also helped me to appreciate food a lot more.

Without food and water we couldn’t survive so why not love it for what it is as one day it could all be gone.

New year resolutions 2014

fireworks display

Here we are now in 2014, and like all the beginnings of each year I have made my resolutions and set myself new goals.

Why you may ask?

I like to have things to looking forward to, and help develop myself as a person, and now I am a mum to set an example to my son.

I think it is important that you should set yourself goals and resolutions as it helps me personally to kick the new year on a positive and gives me new things to aim for, just helps me see what I can do and achieve for self esteem; so as written in my blog about my new fitness regime for 2014, I am going to get back into my fitness as I had to put it on hold when I was pregnant from 5 months onwards.

I also want to do a 10K this year not to kill one self but because I just do, it is a motivational thing, can’t explain really. I sure come the day I will probably regret this one.

To eat more healthy (not done well so far but always tomorrow). To learn and develop as a new parent and look after and enjoy my new son.

I will be doing more crafting, cooking and baking, so Mary Berry better watch out I could be the next Top British Baker. Looks like I might need a new kitchen especially if I happen to burn the one we have right now, sorry hubby, please don’t divorce me won’t be good for 2015. I’ll just bribe him with vanilla cupcakes as got this recipe spot on now, but he’ll probably end up being sick of these by then so may have to come up with another recipe that I can get perfect too.

I need to work on my communication as I don’t mean to but I most easily can snap at the moment, I think sometimes once you’ve had a baby you can turn into without meaning to motherzillar, which I do on occasions.

Keep writing as I love writing creating stories and blogging helps give me a break from every day responsibilities for half and hour, a hobby I really love.

So far 2014 has already started to flow by, and seems busier now than ever but looking forward to the months ahead watching my son grow and me getting back to some kind of normality if you can call it that.

Good luck everyone for 2014.

Thanks for reading my blogs, I will be posting more throughout the coming months for this year,

Carrie X

Having some me time at Christmas

Christmas blog

As much as Christmas is about getting together with family and friends, and buying gifts for the people we love, I think it is also important that you also make the most of it for some “me time”, time for yourself to recharge those batteries, reflect on the year and start planning and making goals for the next year.

Relaxing

I am first to admit that I do like to over indulge at Christmas eating more, having a Christmas drink and spending more, but I do save too for each Christmas and having some relaxation. It will be my first sons Christmas so want to make it as special as possible, I didn’t manage to get a tree this year or send all my Christmas cards out but I do have my decorations up and have managed to get my food in, and buy gifts.

I can do the tree and other bits next year;I no longer get worked up if I do miss something off my list for Christmas, as long as I have the gifts and can spend time with the most important people to me, then that to me is a good Christmas.

What’s more with everything that has happened unexpectedly I have allowed myself to take time to recuperate having my lazy days back on as we have got closer to the festive season, and trying to get myself back to my normal self.

To give myself some me time is important to me as it gives me space from the busyness even if it is just 10 to 15 minutes. I will have an afternoon nap if I want to, blog, play music on my tablet, read a book, watch TV or YouTube. Find time for yourself allows your body too, to rest especially if you’ve had to work up all the way to Christmas day.

So come on it’s Christmas so why not put the chores off for a day or a couple of hours and give yourself that “me time” too so you can be already for the festive cheer and ready for the new year.

Merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year,

cheers
